Gonarezhou National Park

Gonarezhou is known for its rugged, unspoiled wilderness and its diverse wildlife, including elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, giraffes, zebras, and many species of antelope. The park is also home to over 400 species of birds.

The name “Gonarezhou” means “a place of many elephants” in the local Shona language. The park was established in 1975 and is managed by the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority. In recent years, the park has faced challenges such as poaching, human-wildlife conflict, and drought, but efforts are being made to address these issues and protect the park’s natural resources.
