Mana Pools National Park

Where does the name ‘Mana Pools’ come from?

The game reserve takes its name Mana, from the Shona word meaning ‘Four‘ and refers to the four large watering holes or pools that are formed by the Zambezi River. The four pools formed out into the rock over many thousands of years.

The “Long Pool” is the largest of the 4 pools and especially popular among the crocodiles, hippos and elephants. You can find probably the only place in Zimbabwe you can walk in the wild unaccompanied by guides. You are bound to see baboons, elephant, warthog, but the lion, spotted hyena and cheetah keep much to themselves.

However, if you want to truly experience the remoteness and solitude of the African bush, the exclusive camps in the Mana Pools National Park are what you will enjoy.

The Getaway Magazine rated the Mana Pools National Park among Africa’s best parks, and it offers wonderful fishing and canoeing opportunities.
